This form lets you sign up for Seattle Quake Detector Alerts. Note that this is an experimental service, free of charge, that sends text alerts to your cell phone in case a quake is detected. Sometimes our detector may not properly detect an earthquake, and sometimes our detector might falsely warn of an earthquake. So far, in the past several months, we have not had any false indications. We are not responsible for text message charges you may incur. If you are overly sensitive about text messages and do not have an unlimited plan, maybe this isn't the service for you.
Please do not rely on this for life safety. We are not responsible for misuse, accuracy, etc. It's just a "nice to know" service. If we get lucky and give you some warning, it could be useful information.
Our detector is located in the Tacoma area, and while this shouldn't matter if "the big one" hits, there could be cases where the warning is too late or irrelevant. Our thresholds are set high. Don't expect that 3.3 quake to send alerts to your phone.
The text message will originate from a Washington DC number that is currently being tested for several other purposes. In any case, set a unique alert for 202-559-4772.
